The China Alumni Association has published the annual report on Chinese university rankings in 2015. These are general rankings based on the overall reputation of the institutions. The followings are the top 10:

1. Peking University 北京大学

5. Renmin University of China 中国人民大学

1. Tsinghua University

Tsinghua University is the best of the best of Chinese universities. Alma mater of Nobel laureates and China's last two presidents, Tsinghua has the second-ranked MBA program in the whole world. Another of the most prestigious traditional universities in all of China, Fudan University has been accepting international students since the 1950s – one of the first in China to do so. Today, Fudan University enrolls the second-most international students in the country, and offers one of the best intensive Mandarin programs in the city.

Fudan also has several campuses around the city, which makes finding classes near your residence easier. According to the latest ranking, Fudan was named in the top 100 universities worldwide and the top five in China. So, if you want to sharpen up your Mandarin skills at a world-class university, Fudan is the place for you.

5. Guangxi Normal University

Guangxi Normal University in Guilin is one of the best Teaching universities in the country. Located in the breathtaking Li River valley, American students who want to both learn Mandarin, and hone their chops teaching English (or other subjects) internationally, should check out GXNU as an off-the-beaten path destination for a top-notch academic experience, without all the madness of the megacities.

6. Sichuan University

Sichuan University in Chengdu is located in the capital city of the Sichuan Province. Tracing its origins all the way back to 141 BC, Sichuan University is a fantastic choice for international students looking to experience a little deeper, traditionally Chinese study abroad. Deep in the forested interior of China, Sichuan University has a number of exchange and partnership programs to attract international students away from the bigger cities.

7. University of Hong Kong

The University of Hong Kong is oldest university in the city, and its student enrollment is comprised of almost one-quarter international students. If you want the life-affirming jolt of living in the most exciting city in Southeast Asia, the University of Hong Kong is a western-oriented and well-respected option. Founded when Hong Kong was controlled by the British, the university combines British academic sensibilities with a modern Hong Kong environs.

8. Nankai University

Located in Tianjin, Nankai University is a highly-reputed multi-disciplinary university in China. It was founded in 1919 by two patriotic educationists, Zhang Boling and Yan Fansun. NKU is often ranked among the top twenty universities in the country. NKU is most famous for its programs in mathematics, chemistry, history, business and economics, which are among the best in China. 

The university has established exchange and collaboration relations with more than 100 universities and academic institutions in over 22 countries and regions. Presently, NKU has a total enrollment of 23,595 students, 1,845 of whom are from other countries and regions, most often South Korea, Japan, Africa and Europe.

9. Beijing Language and Culture University

Beijing Language and Culture University is located in Beijing. It was originally founded in 1962 as the Higher Preparatory School for Foreign Students. BLCU, dubbed "Little United Nations," is the only university of its category in China that mainly focuses on promoting Chinese language in the world and teaches Chinese language and culture to foreign students. The university is highly acclaimed for its longest history, largest size and strongest faculty in this area in China.

Since its establishment, it has produced more than 120,000 foreign students who are both skilled in Chinese language and familiar with Chinese culture from 176 countries and regions. BLCU has established exchange and cooperation relations with more than 280 universities and research institutions in about 50 countries and regions. Presently, it houses more than 35,000 Chinese students and 8,627 international students.
