Chinese slang term: 夜猫子 (yèmāozi)

"夜猫子" (yèmāozi) means owls in Chinese dialect. As the owl sleeps during the day and preys in the night, people who like to burn the midnight oil and get up late in the next day are nicknamed "夜猫子"。

“夜猫子”是方言,指猫头鹰。因为猫头鹰白天睡觉,而晚上出来行动,所以人们叫那些喜欢晚睡,白天起床起得很晚的人为“夜猫子”。

Examples:

1. wǒ děi zài míngtiān zhīqián wánchéng zhèfen bàogào, suǒyǐ wǒ cāi wǒ jīnwǎn yào dāng yèmāozi le.

我得在明天之前完成这份报告,所以我猜我今晚要当夜猫子了。

I've got to get this report finished by tomorrow so I guess I'll be burning the midnight oil tonight.

2. xiànzài, wǒ shǒuxiān shuōmíng yīxià, rúguǒ nǐ shì ge yèmāozi, bìngqiě zhèyàng duì nǐ de gōngzuò hěn yǒuxiào, wǒ rènwéi zhè jiù hěn bàng le.

现在,我首先说明一下,如果你是个夜猫子,并且这样对你的工作很有效,我认为这就很棒了。

Now, let me first say that if you are a night owl, and that works for you, I think that's great.
