Chinese phrase: 过来人 (guò lái rén)

"过来人" refers to a person who have hands-on experiences of doing something. 

“过来人”指对于做某些事情有过经验、体会的一类人。

Examples:

1. Wǒ zài zhèlǐ gōngzuò èrshí nián le, zuòwéi yígè guò lái rén, wǒ háishì xiǎng tí yìxiē jiànyì gōng nǐ cānkǎo.

2. yào zhī shuǐ shēn qiǎn, xū wèn guò lái rén.

要知水深浅，须问过来人。

He knows the water best who has waded through it. 

3. Wǒ xiǎng mǎi yí liàng chē, dàn duìyú mǎichē, wǒ yìwúsuǒzhī, xīwàng guò lái rén zhǐdiǎn yíxià.

我想买一辆车，但对于买车，我一无所知，希望过来人指点一下。

I want to buy a car, but I know nothing about buying cars. So I wish a person who has experience could help me.

4. yǔ tāmen fēnxiǎng nǐ de jìnbù, tiāozhàn, cuòzhé, nǐ jiù kěyǐ cóng guò lái rén nàlǐ huòdé bāngzhù.
