Alone holding an oil-paper umbrella,

撑着油纸伞，独自

I wander along a long

彷徨在悠长，悠长

Solitary lane in the rain,

又寂寥的雨巷，

Hoping to encounter

我希望逢着

A girl like a bouquet of lilacs

一个丁香一样的

Gnawed by anxiety and resentment.

结着愁怨的姑娘。

她是有

The color of lilacs,

丁香一样的颜色，

The fragrance of lilacs,

丁香一样的芬芳，

The worries of lilacs,

丁香一样的忧愁，

Feeling melancholy in the rain,

在雨中哀怨，

Plaintive and hesitating.

哀怨又彷徨

Silently she comes closer,

她彷徨在这寂寥的雨巷，撑着油纸伞

Closer,giving me

像我一样，像我一样地 ，默默彳亍着，

A glance like a sigh;

冷漠，凄凉，又惆怅。

Then she floats past

她默默地走进，走进，又投出，太息一样的眼光， 她飘过

Like a dream,

像梦一般地

Dreary and blank like a dream.

像梦一般地凄婉迷茫。

Like a lilac

像梦中飘过

Floating past in a dream,

一支丁香地，

the girl floats past me;

我身旁飘过这女郎；

Silently she goes further and further,

她静默地远了，远了，

To the crumbling wall,

到了颓圮的篱墙，

Out of the lane in the rain.

走尽这雨巷。

In the mournful melody of the rain,

在雨的哀曲中，

Her color has faded,

消了她的颜色，

Her fragrance has disppeared,

散了她的芬芳，

Vanished into the void;

消散了，甚至她的

Even her glance like a sigh,

太息般的眼光，

Melancholy like lilacs.

背景知识：

戴望舒（1905.3.5～1950.2.28）现代诗人。又称“雨巷诗人”，中国现代派象征主义诗人。戴望舒为笔名，原名戴朝安，又名戴梦鸥。笔名艾昂甫、江恩等。
浙江杭县（ 今杭州市余杭区）人。他的笔名出自屈原的《离骚》：“前望舒使先驱兮，后飞廉使奔属
。”意思是说屈原上天入地漫游求索，坐着龙马拉来的车子，前面由月神望舒开路，后面由风神飞廉作跟班。望舒就是神话传说中替月亮驾车的天神，美丽温柔，纯洁幽雅。曾赴法国留学，受法国象征派诗人影响。
