Target  Group:                                                                                                                                                                                      The course is designed for those who have completed the Intermediate Chinese 2 course or who have:

  • completed more than 130 learning hours,
  • known about 800 basic Chinese characters, 1300 basic Chinese words,
  • passed the HSK level 3 with high score(300*80%≥240)

A placement interview is required (except for continuing students with advancement approval from previous class)

Learning outcomes

The course seeks to develop language learners’ integrated skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking at the intermediate level, with a special focus on vocabulary, Chinese characters learning, passage reading and practical writing in daily and business life.

Practical skills

Upon completion of this course, you will:

  • be able to conduct conversations in Chinese on life experience and Spiritual cultivation
  • be able to talk about the topic of Education, Environmental protection and Technology
  • be able to express the topic of entertainment,criticisms of films and appreciation of arts
  • be able to make market survey and sales target

Linguistic knowledge

Upon completion of this course, you will:

  • master in  reading and pronouncing sentences with  proper pause and flow of speech
  • further understand Chinese grammar (including the usage of  sentences with connective words, the make flexible use of interrogative pronoun , using the verb “大概,或许”to express fuzzy concept, the pattern “除…之外,…” to express inclusion & exclusion …etc.)
  • have the ability to read illustrative & critical articles and some newspaper & business market survey & analyse written in commonly used vocabulary
  • learn approximately 300 new vocabulary items and phrases
  • learn the methods of constructing Chinese characters

Cultural awareness

Your language learning experience will be complemented with an exploration of culture. You will be exposed to Chinese culture and history, customs and social etiquette, value systems and identities, and some current affairs.
