Target Group:
This course is an opportunity to further your knowledge and understanding of Chinese. It is designed for those who have completed Intermediate Chinese 1.
The course is designed for those who have completed the Intermediate Chinese 1 course or who have:
- Completed more than 110 learning hours,
- Known about 600 basic Chinese characters, 1000 basic Chinese words,
- Passed the HSK level 3 (300X60%≥180)
A placement interview is required (except for continuing students with advancement approval from previous class)
Learning outcomes:
The course seeks to develop language learners’ integrated skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking at the intermediate level, with a special focus on vocabulary, Chinese characters learning, passage reading and practical writing in daily and business life.
Practical skills
Upon completion of this course, you will:
- be able to conduct conversations in Chinese on abundant and business topics
- be able to express one’s opinion, give an example
- be able to compare, present and appreciate a gift, ask in retort
- be able to describe something, emphasize an affirmation, express modesty
- be able to indicate a change, make a summary
Linguistic knowledge
Upon completion of this course, you will:
- master in pronouncing Chinese sentences in common speed, and use different tones to express someone’s emotion
- further understand Chinese grammar (including the usage of “把”sentence, the adverb “更”and “最” used to express comparisons, separable verb, using the verb “有没有”to express comparisons, the rhetorical question, sentences indicating existence or emergence…etc.)
- have the ability to read argumentative articles and some newspaper & business reports written in commonly used vocabulary
- learn approximately 300 new vocabulary items and phrases
- learn the methods of constructing Chinese characters
Cultural awareness
Your language learning experience will be complemented with an exploration of culture. You will be exposed to Chinese culture and history, customs and social etiquette, value systems and identities, and some current affairs.
